Roulette, of course, is one of the casino’s favourite pastimes. Roulette and slot machines are the most popular forms of entertainment at casinos. And for some, it’s a sure-fire way to get rich. Unlike cards, where everything is rational and logical, it seems that everything depends entirely on luck. But as the examples of successful individuals who have made a fortune from roulette show, it really does depend on the individual. Winning requires a lot of stamina, calculation, observation and analysis.
The man who broke the bank at Monte Carlo is Joseph Jagger. He is a legend in the game of roulette. And a real legend, because his success story goes back to the 19th century. Even then, this man with a subtle mind realized that random bets at random will not bring good luck. He decided to analyse how things really happen. To do this, he needed six assistants who went to watch the gambling tables at the Monte Carlo casino.
The strategy was a success. Observation and analysis of the results showed Joseph that the same numbers were winning more often than not. Then the man began to bet on them – and a lot of money. His first game brought him a fortune of £14,000. Soon the amount increased to £60,000. The gambling house owners forbade Jagger to come to them, because he was simply ruining the casino. But he didn’t need to. After all, he set a goal to make a fortune and live comfortably. Which he did in a matter of days.
The next legend was William Darnborough, who lived in the early 20th century. He was able to earn half a million dollars while playing roulette. Witnesses admired his prodigious talent. However, it is likely that William was also an excellent observer and analyst. He had once won five in a row.
In general, the reason for his success man never told anyone, quietly ruining the casino – and, moreover, illegal. He made his fortune on illegal establishments. Which, however, allowed him to live a prosperous life without poverty.
In 1970 Richard Jareski, a doctor by profession, became rich. He developed his own system, which benefited from excellent observational skills. While playing in large casinos, he specifically looked for roulettes, where the numbers fell out unevenly. Knowing his own algorithms, the man was able to win $1.3 million in one day.
But a gambler named Billy Walter went the more adventurous route. He used a system similar to the one developed by Jareski. Only he assembled a whole team to play the game. This led to an increase in the total winnings. As a result, he and his companions made between $3.5 million and $5 million – no one knows the exact amount.
